Mary Abreu has been crafting most of her life, although she admits that sticking to one or two is a challenge (hence the “ADD crafter” moniker). Her first book — Little Girls, Big Style (Stash Books, an imprint of C&T Publishing) — was published in 2010; her second book, Modern Style for Girls, was out in October 2015. Hack that Tote!, Mary’s third book with Stash Books, was published in September 2016.

She is an accomplished sewing instructor who teaches a wide range of classes including beginning sewing, serger techniques, apparel and bag making, decoding sewing patterns and even quilting classes. Mary has sewn for fabric manufacturers and designers, creating tutorials and samples used to market new lines and patterns.

Mary has worked as a seamstress with Whitestone Motion Pictures, a small movie production company near Atlanta, and has wardrobe department credits on two short films, including The Candy Shop, starring Doug Jones, as well as a History Channel show. Mary also sewed for the third season of FOX’s Sleepy Hollow.

An award-winning journalist, Mary has worked as an editor, writer and art director at newspapers and magazines throughout the Southeast United States during her 24-year career. She tries to squeeze in the occasional freelance writing and editing gig — although running a household and parenting three kids (26, 23 and 12) are her first priority.

Mary and her Honey will celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary this summer, although she’s not sure if he’s as willing to mark the occasion at DragonCon as she is.

She enjoys attending pop culture conventions, where she is a regular presenter on the topics of pattern drafting and hacking, costuming for children, and historically influenced costuming. She lives with her family near Atlanta, Georgia.

  1. WittyYou read one sentence and jump in immediately: Not a smart move because the sentence which follows immediately would have made it clear for you why the headline is correct:“Until that point, the Americans believed (just like Israel’s governments) that a Palestinian state would be a disaster. Secretly they still think so, because one Tehran is enough, yet they cannot be against it when Israel is in favor.”

  4. I think it basically comes down to this — the people who settled this country south and west were fucking nuts. You kind of had to be… because pretty much anywhere you go in this country beyond the relatively placid area east of the Appalachians, mother nature is basically going to take repeated stabs at killing you and destroying your life. Religion's just one way to cope with that. Alcohol is probably another.I think that's a hard concept for someone from New York City to wrap their heads around. They are decedents of people who decided that was a little too much adventure for them.

  5. Hey!I really enjoyed reading your blog man! I have been out of school for 7 years working in I.T Field but now once again I have an urge to pursue my dream of being a doc. I am 32 and have a 1 year old. Lets see I am thinking to just study for the MCATs and write it and then just leave it to God.Wish me luck

  6. And that is true with a Democrat as President and holding the Senate. Dodd/Frank was a toothless watered down bill anyways… what we really need is a return to the previous, and very effective post depression era, regulations that were repealed under Clinton (and signed by Clinton). And we wonder why the OWS movement is disenchanted with Party politics?

  7. Lets keep it local yall!! Hey would’nt it be nice for all our couples to give their business to our local vendors,be weary of the out of town vendors, chances are excellent you are just going to get an “associate” and not the name behind the company

  8. Oops, typo–Edward R. Murrow!Little fact about him:"He worked as assistant director of the Institute of International Education from 1932 to 1935, serving as the Assistant Secretary of the Emergency Committee in Aid of Displaced Foreign Scholars, which helped prominent German scholars (mostly Jews) who had been dismissed from academic positions."

  9. I attend most of the Mercy NAC meetings, Jolene. I brought up the safety issues with the line-up of vehicles on 39th Street back at the November meeting but Sacred Heart is not addressing the problem proactively. I will discuss it again at the next meeting.

  10. "If the money men behind the Rs really won't let them back away from any of their signature vote-losing issues: open borders, free trade, tax cuts for the rich, and a generally low-wage, pro-capital approach to policy, then the party is finished."For the money men, those are the whole point for having a Republican party. If something is going to change it won't come from them.

  11. I work in a Day Spa and the way we get clients the start of a new month is who ever sells the most products will get the appointments. The pressure of trying to get the client to buy the spa products gets the co-workers at odds with each other. I get it the client needs shampoo and conditioner and nail polish and bath salts. Our prices are marked up 100%. The client isn’t stupid to price.

  13. I was telling Justin we should write Cheryl's “Throbbing Python” novella. We already came up with a few good (well, “good”) story lines and characters. And then, as a next step, we shall self-publish it. I am so ready for this.PS Another excellent review, Justin. I think Cheryl's almost ready for her own blog. (And a self-published novella!)

  14. I was nine when Otis passed away and admittedly only ever was exposed to “Sittin’.” I was unaware his death was so soon after the recording. Like John mentioned above, I am going to set out to hear some of these other songs as a result of your post. We still have some vinyl around here…somewhere…!

  17. I love the idea of a photo a day challenge even if we are not going to scrap those photos. The challenge gets us to look at the world around us in new ways and also helps us become more familiar with our photo equipment. There is lots to learn and no film to develop so to me, it is not time wasted at all. Thanks for the prompts!

  18. Tu élèves la gourmandise et la gastronomie à un niveau inégalé ;-D Une belle amélioration que je tenterai lors de ma prochaine Tatin (par quoi est-ce que je pourrais remplacer la ventrèche, tu penses?) Votre convivialité (and your grace) me ravissent! By the way, I love your picture in the article, a frank and direct gaze that’s worth a million words! Makes people want to meet you!

  19. We need moar Johanna, Finnick, and S.L.O.E. Buttercup to make our brains hurt less. At least I can respect Beetee, because he seems to have privately understood his decision, if that makes any sense. I don't understand doing it, but if you're going to make a deal with the devil, at least be real about it, and don't make moral excuses.

Magda Faria.

  21. 189ALL the Squidoo lenses were really good. I especially loved the Fair Trade one. You were clear and concise on the meaning of Fair Trade and the positive results of utilizing Fair Trade products in manufacturing and buying Fair Trade for consumers. Thanks, Rita. (By the way, because GOLGI uses Fair Trade products, I’m giving it a try!)118

  23. We so appreciate your blog post. There are actually a multitude of means we could put it to decent use with minimal effort on time and resources. Thank you really with regard to helping make the post reply many issues we have encountered before now.

  24. My partner and I absolutely love your blog and find the majority of your post’s to be exactly I’m looking for. Do you offer guest writers to write content for yourself? I wouldn’t mind writing a post or elaborating on most of the subjects you write with regards to here. Again, awesome web site!

  25. I have probs with this lumia 800… All the tips I’ve read wont work… I guess I have regret buying this phone… If I know this would happen, i wont buy this kind of phone… good advertisement bad product… In my own opinion, Nokia don’t create a phone that’s only ruin once businesses…

  27. that's me. I want to add that teachers are piss poorly paid. I make way more than a teacher and I have no room to complain about working hard compared to a teacher. A teacher that is devoted to teaching. Might be why some cop the "I don't give a shit" 'tude. What with that and having to parent because parents won't. By some, I may mean 1 in a 100. I don't know. Only went to one good public school (7th & 8th) and Northwestern U. So, I may be skewed in favor rather than agin' the teachers.

  28. This is an extremely interesting appointment! Bishop Sartain’s sister is Sister Marian Sartain, O.P., the Secretary-General of the Nashville Dominicans, a thriving community who has retained the traditional habit and apostolic life. Bishop Sartain has had much experience with many different communities and enjoys a very good reputation with all sides of this issue. This is a good move.
