I know that I babble on and on about sewing, but there’s a reason why this blog is called “Confessions of a Craft Addict” and not “Confessions of a Fabric Addict.”

To whit: YUDU.

I have been salivating over this product since I heard about, so when I saw it on a little Yudu island at Joann’s on Friday, I did a little happy dance in the aisle, then ran over and hugged the box. Fortunately, my sons’ coworkers all know me and can t least feign amusement at my often kooky antics.

“Can’t you hear it? It wants to go home with me,” I asked some frightened looking passerby.

Aforementioned son pointed out that I already own the basics for screenprinting, so I really don’t need to drop $300+ on a fancy-schmancy home screenprinting unit. I, of course, disowned him on the spot. OK, not really. But I did remind him about all the pointless electronic crap he owns and that he does not have to pay rent or utilities plus gets to eat all of my food and take 40-minute showers on a daily basis.

Anyway.

I need this totally awesome toy cool crafty necessity so I can explore a brand-new area of crafting aka screenprinting. Think of all the cool things I could do with it: posters, gifts, special event tees. The possibilities are limitless.

Sadly, I’ve spent two months justifying to Honey buying all kinds of furniture for my sewing studio, so the odds of him giving a thumbs up to buying a Yudu are roughly equal to The Beatles playing at my next birthday party.

Hmmmm. Birthday. I think I know what just shot to the top of my wish list.

Um…doesn’t your son get a discount at his store? I’m thinking this would be the perfect gift from HIM! :)

I’m very interested in the Yudu, too. I have a basic screenprinting thingy that i’ve never used (no time yet), so I can’t justify buying a Yudu. Maybe at the end of the year when its sure to go on sale….

I went to my Joann’s ad and saw that it was excluded from discount! Darn! I watched the whole video and thought it might be fun to have and use. but I think that I will put it on hold a while.

JoAnn’s has it on sale for $199 until March 7th, so I’d take advantage of that. It’s $100 off!

Also, feel free to stop by and check out the Yudu user forums at http://www.yuduforums.com. We have some info on what NOT to do your first time out and how to prevent using up the 2 emulsions they give you before even printing anything. haha (I have to laugh about it now, because I was the one who managed to mess up both emulsions)

I’ve recently stumbled onto your blog…
and I just LOVE your craftiness!
also…I just wanted to add that I too, have been dreaming about the YuDu…and it’s on sale this week at JoAnn’s for $199..
my sister forked out the money (so, I’ll train on hers before I pick up one for myself)…
I can’t wait for you to get one..
and I really can’t wait to see what you make!

I’m looking that up now! My husband wants to add screen printing to our business. . .Maybe this will be just what we need!

  14. elizabeth

i too saw this in the joann’s flyer and immediately started lusting…screen printing is so awesomely fun! and this would be so much easier (and probably consideraly less messy) than the traditional methods for creating emulsions.

Oh…this is the gift that keeps on giving indeed! And with a discount? WEll then.

  17. elenka

That looks just like something I would be interested in, too! My son, who also takes 40 min showers, would like that as well. He likes to screen t-shirts. I wonder if you can do that on that?

I saw this the other day at the craft store and spent about 20 minutes trying to justify the expense. In the end I sadly walked away knowing that I didn’t have any space to use it anyway. Looked wicked cool though

  19. Tifani

Add me to the list of moms with teen sons that now want this. Morgan just asked if he can have it for his birthday!

  20. rhembein

    SERIOUSLY WICKED COOL! EEP! ACK!!

    GET IT!

HOLY SCHMOLY… I want one! This is so cool. WHY DID YOU HAVE TO SHOW ME THIS!! Ouch… it’s the price of a car payment. So if give my 40 minuter showerer and food snarfing teenage son Top Ramen and tell him to shower at the pool for a week… I could even buy TWO with all the money I’d save.

Ok, how weird is this. Zachary just asked me how to screen print and I just emailed an old college friend to see if he would teach my baby boy how to do it.

    What is this new toy.

Maybe we need to share one for awhile!?!

  26. LollyChops

I want one of these too.. sooo sooo bad. I saw one in the isle just last weekend at JoAnns and I stopped dead in my tracks. My hubs ran into the back of me even. I circled the display several times and just looked at him with my mouth hanging open. hehe.. it’s officially on my birthday list. Officially.

  27. Amy

LOL, good luck, hope your birthday genie delivers!

I’ve been searching for something like this for like forever. Holy cow.

  29. Donna

I purchased this through HSN then saw the JoAnne’s Sale price – $100 less!!! Instructional DVD is so Annoying, it’s difficult to watch, plus there’s much info left out. I’ve spent many hours trying to figure it out before screwing up an emulsion sheet.

If interested in ‘the business’, however, it’s a good way to learn at a much lower investment than a professional rig. But somewhat limits you to smaller runs and simplified one-color.

Plan on doing my printing next week when I have the time to “think” about what I’m doing. My first impression was I shouldn’t have purchased, but may feel differently once I have success. Will try to let you know how I do.

    Ebay, Ebay, Ebay!

I just won a bid on Ebay for the same package sold at JoAnns and Micheals. It was $187, plus free shipping!!! There are tons of them selling on Ebay. Good Luck!
