As soon as she was ready, Miss L has worn white leather Keds. Just the basic, lace-up style, replaced with an identical pair as she’s outgrown them.

Until this year.

I noticed the Keds were a bit snug (which is to be expected after wearing them about six months), so we headed to the shoe store after the first of the year in search of a replacement pair. I picked up the same shoes in the next size up, only to be told by my daughter, “No, thank you.” Instead, she insisted on trying on a pair of sneakers. White with Velcro straps and little pink butterflies on the side.

Big girl shoes.

She loved them so much, she wanted to wear them out of the store. (I said no.) They look so big (which I’m sure has nothing to do with the fact that they are a size 10) and the fact that she had an opinion — an opinion! — about which shoes to buy makes me even more aware of the fact that she’s growing up so darned fast.

Love the shoes– I was very particular about my shoes when I was little– not so much the outfit but definately the shoes!

She made a good choice with the butterflies!

It’s so weird when they have an opinion after years of not actively choosing something.

Isabelle chose the last croc boots we got her. When they came in the mail she wore them all the time, in the house and everything. She would have probably worn them to bed if she could have. :-D

Miss Megan, who is just barely three, is already wearing a size 10 shoe. Talk about looking big!! Poor thing got her mamma’s feet.

They definitely have opinions. My oldest when she was about 20 months old started insisting on wearing long dresses. Of course I had only one or two too big long dresses. Everything else was either short or pants. That sent me scurrying. Even my boy had definite opinions by the time he was three. Even to this day at 5 years old he only wear jeans after much coaxing by dad.

ahh the lace up ked. I remember when shoe life was much more simple. Very cute shoes-and don’t worry-you think Miss L’s feet are huge you can think of me and 10 year old Chicken who wears a woman’s size 8 -8.5!!

they do grow up fast. Seems like yesterday I was picking out my daughter’s shoes and now she’s choosing her own style all her own.
