Does anyone else remember the gasoline rationing in the 1970s? I wasn’t even 10 years old but we lived on post and I have these vague memories of sitting in the car for what seemed like hours just so my folks could gas up.
I had this sudden flashback to those days while sitting in line at the gas station tonight. Only three pumps were working and all were at least four cars deep. Why? Well, the Kroger had gas for $3.75 — which is $3.65 if you’ve earned a discount with that handy little Kroger Plus Card. It’s easily the cheapest gas in this part of town, so I sat and waited my turn.
Honey just shook his head when I told him about my experience. “But it was only $3.65 a gallon!” Now that I type it out, I have to shake my head, too. It’s amazing how paying more than $4 a gallon for gas affects your outlook on gas prices. Because $3.65 is about twice what gas prices were four years ago.
Ah, the good ol’ days.

Well, I don’t remember those days. But I remember a couple summers ago when gas was going to go over $3 a gallon and I sat @ Sam’s Club for an hour to get gas before it went up. What I wouldn’t give for those days. When I started driving if gas was over $1 gallon I would throw a fit….if I only knew then……

When I was in college, gas was 99 cents per gallon, but I remember friends who lived one state north of our college planning weekend trips home sometimes so they could get the 89 cents per gallon up there. I never had a car in college or high school, but I remember folks belly aching about having to pay gas money to their parents. Back then, it was hardly anything!!

I remember those days!! We lived in California at the time and my folks had a gold Chevy Impala with plastic gold seats…
Blessings!

$3.65?! I think on the weekend Alan was excited that it went down to $4.31 by us.

And we’re rejoicing here because gas is “only” $4.07, down from $4.30!!
And where the HECK does Kuky live?? I thought NY had some of the most expensive gas in the country.

I remember waiting in those lines…but I gas up at CostCo now, so I STILL have to sit in a gas line…no matter what the price is. I can’t wrap my mind around the first part of the gas price per gallon being a 3…I am constantly saying, “Oh, I only paid $1.65 for gas at CostCo” and my mom says “what!?!?!?!” Oops…it’s 3 for crying out loud…
THAT is nuts!

I got gas a few days ago… still in the fours here. Maybe if I left my cave I’d know for sure what it’s at now. I so remember the gas lines of the 70’s. At the time, I didn’t care… because I had a fresh hot driver’s license in my wallet, and my mom’s Mercury Montego full of my firends! I did hate that we had odd/even days (maybe that was just for Calif., I danno).
