Does anyone else remember the gasoline rationing in the 1970s? I wasn’t even 10 years old but we lived on post and I have these vague memories of sitting in the car for what seemed like hours just so my folks could gas up.

I had this sudden flashback to those days while sitting in line at the gas station tonight. Only three pumps were working and all were at least four cars deep. Why? Well, the Kroger had gas for $3.75 — which is $3.65 if you’ve earned a discount with that handy little Kroger Plus Card. It’s easily the cheapest gas in this part of town, so I sat and waited my turn.

Honey just shook his head when I told him about my experience. “But it was only $3.65 a gallon!” Now that I type it out, I have to shake my head, too. It’s amazing how paying more than $4 a gallon for gas affects your outlook on gas prices. Because $3.65 is about twice what gas prices were four years ago.

Ah, the good ol’ days.
