Going Yo-yo Crazy

Last night I finally broke out the Clover yo-yo maker I’ve had for the better part of a year. (Yes, I tend to buy things and not get around to using them. It’s a bad habit and I need to break it.)
Anyway, I have an enormous bag of scraps and decided to play around with the yo-yo maker to see if I liked the results. LOVE! I think I could spend hours stitching up these little cuties. Aren’t they adorable?
Of course, I have no idea what I’m going to do with them. Right now I’m just sticking them in a gallon-sized Ziploc bag until I get a few more, since there aren’t enough to really think about using. Well, except maybe as embellishments on purses or clothes. (Which gives me an idea for a half-finished outfit for Miss L. But I digress.)
I’ve been cruising Flickr for some inspiration and haven’t been disappointed. I love how these are displayed. This is gorgeous, but I don’t know if I have the patience for it (much less a bigger one). I’m totally going to use these as inspiration. I think the yo-yos on this purse are a nice touch. I’ve seen garlands, too, but I think I’d rather do something bigger with them. What have you sen done with yo-yos that’s cool or different?

Hello! Oh, your new site looks wonderful! And I have to say that I have major yo yo envy. I’m in love with yo yos myself but I can never understand how to make them from the instructions I’ve seen. Does a yo yo maker actually make it easier?
I got the camera, by the way…I’ve hardly had time to play with it yet and it’s clear that I need to read the instruction manual to get the hang of it. Very exciting.
Anyway…I’m going to go and see what else you’ve been up to since I’ve been gone.

I have seen different patterns for toys…bears, dogs, clowns, etc. They look cute.
I have been looking at purchasing the yo-yo makers, just haven’t gotten around to it yet. What else is new…
I would probably be like you with ziploc baggies of them and wondering what to make.

I’ve seen entire blankets done with Yo-yo’s and then there’s the proverbial yo-yo vest…but I’m not sure you should really take them there…

They are so cute! I want some! Send me a couple
I’ve seen people use them in scrapbooking. That photo of the ones with the flowers and buttons in the middle would be great for scrapbooking. I quite liked the frame idea too. Think it would look better with brighter colors though.

I had no idea there was a yoyo maker! And to think of all the saucers I have traced around in my lifetime! My mom made a quilt several years back and has started another. Very time consuming, but one of those projects you kind of work on for a while then put down for a while. She also made a vest front, back in the day when vests were all the rage, can we say late 80s, NKOTB! I love yoyos, I most recently used them on my daughter’s Easter dress, very tiny ones placed under a covered button. I could send you a pic if you like.

I never heard of a yo yo maker.
And that bag you linked to…nice. It’s so easy to get lost in Flickr looking around at all the wonderful images.

You know… I’m trying to dig my way out from under a pile of projects and you go and post this! I want one. …Not quite sure what I’d do with them, but I’d figure it out, right?
…Ooo! I could make Ninja-baby brother a stuffed animal! *sneaks off to the craft store before Mr. CW gets wise.*

I’ve been debating getting one of these yo yo makers and making a kitschy blanket from my scraps. I think this post is an enabler for me to go buy one

I don’t have the yo-yo maker, but have made them by hand before, mostly as purse embellies. Once I learned how to do it, I was hooked! I think they might look cute as little girls’ hair accessories too. Don’t know why I haven’t tried that yet!
Happy yo-yo-ing!

When I lived on Smith Avenue my neighbor across the street hand sewed her own clothes. She made yo yos and sewed them into bedspreads. She took orders and sold them. I once saw a picture of a vest with yo yos as the top layer on the front. It was very attractive and colorful. I checked out some web sites about yo yos. Someone was making very cute hair ornaments out of yo yos. Others were using them to decorate T-shirts. This is something I could do when I am sitting watching (listening to) a TV movie.

Awesome video. You did a fantastic job. That’s a great project too. I’m sure your daughter’s teacher will love it.
