Flowers for Teacher

I made this paper flower bouquet for Miss L’s teacher, as an end-of-the-year “thank you” gift. I had so much fun with it — and it was so well received by her teachers and the other parents at school — that I knew it deserved a tutorial. This one features fabric from Sandi Henderson’s Ginger Blossom line for Michael Miller. I decoupaged the fabric on the pot using Mod Podge. The rim of the pot was painted with a dark brown paint, which I sponged off a bit to give it a distressed leather look.

To make your own pretty flower pot bouquet, you will need:

  • Flower template
  • Construction paper or cardstock
  • Scrapbook paper (optional)
  • Pen
  • Scissors
  • Thin wooden dowels
  • Papier mache flower pot
  • Green paint and brush or sponge brush
  • Pot-decorating items (paint, fabric, paper, etc.)
  • Tissue paper or paper grass
  • Tulle or ribbon
  • Circle cutting tool or punch, or a circular object you can trace
  • Picture of each child, cropped to approximate circle size (2 inches is recommended)
  • Adhesive (glue dots, Xyron, glue stick, etc.)
  • 5×5-inch cube of dry floral foam
  • Paper shredder

    Wow, Mary, that was awesome! I’ve never ‘heard’ your voice before lol. Sounded different than I imagined lol. I love this idea. Being a scrapbooker, I’ve already got ideas flooding my brain lol. And wow, I forget school is out in May in the States. We go all year round and our ‘year’ ends in December so these will make great gifts for xmas and end of year teacher gifts. How did you organize getting photos from all the parents of the kids?

    Okay, I’m laughing because as I looked at the picture of the flower pot (very cute, BTW, I might have to steal the idea for my son’s teacher) — I was looking at all the photos (other than Miss L’s) trying to figure out why they were photos of strange circular things — like bald baby heads, only they didn’t look quite right. Was she including baby pics of Miss, L? I wondered? Why does she look so blobby and featureless?

    Finally figured out that you had blurred out the other pics — I’m assuming classmates, right?

    Silly me.

    So great - if pre-school didn’t end on Thursday, I would be so on this. Maybe I can do some sort of adjustment that doesn’t require me to have a picture of every kid in the class. And nice to see you and hear you!
