Talk To Me

So I have two yards of this Alexander Henry fabric and I have no idea what to make with it. I bought it intending to make a messenger bag from it for my friend Eryn’s birthday; she liked another fabric better, so this one’s been curing in my stash for about a year.

Each girl is about 12 inches tall, so it’s definitely a bigger print than I normally use. And I’d rather make something for me with it than for Miss L. My default item these days seems to be a skirt, and I guess I could do that but I was really looking for something different — not that I think I could name what it is.

Throw some ideas at me! Please! I’m really trying to work my way through this stash of mine and I’m itching to sew up this one.

Well, I’m not wild about the fabric but I could envision it as a complimentary sash and head scarf to a cute springy skirt outfit. Depending on how much is left of the fabric, maybe a bag to go with it?

12″ high girls - wow! This is not a novel idea, but I’d make it into a bag or tote of some sort. It would definitely be a conversation piece if you made it up as a skirt. It’s fun fabric, that’s for sure.

You know if I had this I’d probably cut out the girls and butterflies and applique them onto something else of glue them on a scrapbook page; but I think it would make a nice hanging pockets for notions, patterns, etc. and would look so cheerful hanging on the wall near your sewing area. Two yards wouldn’t make a jacket, but it might make a light weight vest (lined with some batiste) to go over a t-shirt. Perhaps someone else will have some good ideas.

What a fun print! I could see it becoming a swim suit cover-up. You know, the simple kind that tie at the waist? It would be easy to sew up, and you may even have enough left to make a small tote or head scarf to go along with it (I liked those ideas, too.)

Wow that is a big print! I think a bag would be good too. Though I would like to see what this looks like as a piece of clothing. Not much help am I? :)

Do you have any graduation gifts to make? I think, given the size of the girls, it should be something large. A laundry bag for a girl heading off to college would be awesome! I know I would have loved it all those years ago…

Yeah, I’m not going to be any help here, I think bag as well. It’s screaming bag…make me into a bag! Fabric like this wants to get out and about, see and be seen. It’s great! I loved Alexander Henry, sigh, I miss sewing. I need to find that sewing room. I think I’ll get out my sicle and start chopping away until I get there! :)

How about some lounge pants from Amy Butler’s In Stitches? I think large prints are great for this project!

I was thinking the same thing…lounge pants. Very cute with a comfy tee or camisole.
